I thrive in ambiguity. I am intrigued when two contradictory facts are true at the same time.  I get sad when brands die.  And I love to help businesses return to growth. I have delivered results in some of the most competitive industries that exist.  I have turned double digit declines into double digit growth, delivered over $1B in new product innovation, recaptured share growth, reimagined brands customers love, and crafted new strategies that catapulted companies forward. 

 

I have worked across diverse categories and famous brands, including Kay Jewelers, Goodyear, Pantene, Rubbermaid, Crest, Max Factor, and Ralph Lauren. I have also worked with small companies with names almost no one knows.

 

More than anything I am obsessed with the pivot.  When does a company need to change a core element of their business?  Which elements should be changed and in what order?   My superpower is sifting out the noise and finding patterns in layers of data. 

 

My greatest delight is bringing people together to solve tough problems.  I am an expert at entering organizations from the outside and building trust fast, because I have no hidden agendas.  I just want to grow your enterprise and your team, and help you win in the market. 

What I Believe

PEOPLE:  Every employee has a gift to bring to the company.  By definition, a gift must be given.  The leader's job is to make each person want to give their gift. 

STRATEGY:  Where to play and how to win.  Strategy is choice.  The power is as much in deciding what the company will NOT do as what it WILL.

MARKETING:  The mother science of business. The compass function.  Marketing should define the opportunity area and point the way how to get there.  

LEADERS:  Great leaders are inherently great learners and great listeners.  They are always in the process of reworking their mental map with new information.  They are accountable for the decisions they make, and they stand behind their team members' decisions as well.   

ANALYSIS:  In the end there are always three key questions:   does the end user prefer what we are offering, do we have the capability to deliver that offering,  and can we make money doing that?  

COMMUNICATION:  Listen at least twice as much as you talk. Understand the question before you try to answer it.  Answer in as few words as possible.  If you don't know, say so.
